Children's Ministries at WPC

WPC treasures its children.  Members of all ages frequently refer to “our kids” and give generously of their time and talent to support our ministries with children.

The recent large-scale renovation of our Junior Worship Room, and its grand reopening celebration (see photos) is but one tangible example of the way this congregation cares for its youngest members – and the excitement we all share for what they can teach us as well.

Education

At 9:15 on Sunday mornings we offer Sunday School classes for kids from Kindergarten through 7th grade (for 8th grade and up, see “Youth” link).  The classes are biblically based, and are designed to introduce our kids to the broadest possible range of Scripture over the course of their years in the Sunday School program, all the while keeping the experience fun, interactive, and child-centered.

Worship

Our kids join their families for the first part of our weekly worship service at 10:30 a.m., enjoy a brief Children’s Time conversation in the front of the sanctuary following our opening praise songs, then are sent on their way to Junior Worship with a ‘Litany of Parting’ that has become a favorite WPC tradition.  “May God be with you there,” says the congregation, and the kids and their teachers respond, “May God be with you here!”

Their own special worship service, led by our Children’s Ministry Directory Julie Young in our newly remodeled Junior Worship Room downstairs, offers kids grade 3 and under worshipful experiences that are age-appropriate, hands-on, and – more often than not – involve exuberant singing, jumping, and dancing as well as story time, prayer time, and a craft.

Nursery Care

We have a paid nursery caregiver who staffs our nursery throughout our Christian Education and worship hours each Sunday.
