Our Pastors

"The Presbyterian Church (USA) faces the exciting challenge of integrating people of increasingly diverse backgrounds into its membership, some of whom have grown up in the church and some of whom have no prior church experience.  Many believe that the Bible is an ancient document that has no relevance to their lives.  We are optimistic about the future of our denomination, welcoming opportunities in our preaching and teaching to enable people to discover for themselves that the Scriptures are as vital, dynamic, and timely today as they were thousands of years ago."

- Pastors Ken & Deb Sunoo

Ken Kyung Sunoo, who spent his undergraduate years in the Business School at the University of California, Berkeley, received his Masters of Divinity degree from Princeton Theological Seminary in 1992, and his Masters of Theology degree, with a concentration in Theological Ethics, in 1994.

After graduating from Dartmouth College, Deborah Hannay Sunoo also went on to Princeton; receiving her Masters of Divinity degree from PTS in 1991 and her Ph.D. in Biblical Studies in 1999. In addition to her work at the church, Deb has served as an Adjunct Assistant Professor of Old Testament at Fuller Seminary Northwest here in Seattle.

Our pastors’ racial backgrounds reflect the changing demographics of our society (Ken is Korean-American, Deborah is Scottish-American). The richness of their combined cultural backgrounds, and their ability to bring both male and female perspectives to a variety of issues, helps them to offer a balanced, inclusive approach to ministry.

Ken and Deb equally share their pastoral responsibilities here at WPC, each one taking regular turns in the pulpit and in our Sunday School classrooms, moderating meetings, and making pastoral care visits to the homes and hospital rooms of church members.
