"Love Christ, love each other, laugh often"
'IF I HAD NOT STOPPED BY HERE...'
There was a fantastic preacher at the conference. He spoke with passion, intelligence, humor and a prophetic call to action was issued. I'll write more about all that another time, though. For there was one sentence in his intro that caught my ear. He was greeting former colleagues, a community he had been with for 8 years or so--he moved away from them last August. He said,
"If I had not stopped by here, I would not be who I am today."
Oh my. What a beautiful way to honor former colleagues! What an intriguing idea: each season of life, each stop as it were, shapes and forms us. It gives me pause. Do I allow 'this stop' to transform me? Do I trust the power of the Divine to engage me in a peculiar context? Are there impediments to paying attention, to stop at the stop, as it were?
In this resurrected season, we are invited to examine our place in the world, to linger long enough to discover the remaking of our personhood, to stop, breath deep and say thanks. Stop.
